There is the family we are born into and the family we choose. Cuca was chosen. I will always remember her being there for me during the toughest days of my life. Perhaps what I am most grateful for is how she was always there for my mom. I’m sure my mom didn’t always make it easy but family is family.
The summer of 2012 Caridad opened her doors and welcomed me, and my family to her home in Miami. We laughed, we cried , and we shared stories. We ate ‘pan con mantequilla’ and drank ‘café con leche’ the Cuban way. Her kindness will always be remembered. Rest in peace my dear Cary; until we meet again.
