Betty Maria Siquier's Obituary
Betty “Abuelita” Jova Siquier passed away very peacefully on Friday, July 30, 2021 after living a beautiful 94 years of life with her beloved family.
Abuela was born March 6, 1928 in Cienfuegos, Cuba, one of eight children to parents Pura and Leopoldo. She married her sweetheart, Tomas “Poppi” Siquier Barrera, when she was 17 and they adored each other for 40 years of marriage. They were blessed with their first son, Pedro, in 1945 and then again with Tomas in 1948. Abuela loved and cherished her boys and she was forever devoted to them. In 1960, Abuela and Poppi decided to bring their family to the United States of America. By 1971, she was so proud to become a US Citizen and knew she loved this great country.
Abuela enjoyed exploring new places and meeting so many beautiful people, especially those who shared her “coming to America from Cuba” story. She was always so appreciative of the opportunities God gave her. Abuela was always known to be an expert homemaker who enjoyed cooking and keeping a tidy home. Her food brought her family together and she lived for the celebrations and memories with those she loved.
In 1984 when Abuela lost her beloved husband, Poppi, it was the saddest time in her life. She was a fighter though and a woman of great strength and courage. With God by her side and Poppi watching over her, she embarked on a new journey as she focused on the friendships and family that meant so much to her.
Abuela loved traveling to new places and experiencing different cultures and cuisine. She enjoyed the outdoors, the beauty of nature and all the simplest things in life. She loved most when a baby was in her arms and cherished those special times of new life with all of her granddaughters especially. She lived in the moment and never took anything for granted. She would do anything to help anyone and truly was the sweetest person with such a big heart. Her family and friends could always count on her and she was always there to help in any time in need. Especially when anyone needed a good laugh. She had such a natural sense of humor.
Her family and friends are so grateful to have been in her presence all of these years and share in so many special memories with her. She will be forever missed.
Abuela is survived by her two sons Pedro and Tomas, her sister Perla, and her 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, along with her 4 great great grandchildren.
Her sons, Pedro and Tomas, and her family thank you for the love, support and prayers.
