Arecia Fonticoba's Obituary
Arecia Fonticoba, age 90, passed away on April 5, 2022 in Hialeah, Florida. Arecia is survived by her sister, Emérida “Nery” Núñez, her niece, Carmen Kuzbyt Christodoulou, and her great-nieces Brianna Kuzbyt and Lauren Kuzbyt Lixie.
Arecia was born on November 29, 1931 in Habana, Cuba to parents Bernarda Fernandez and Pedro Ramis and had two younger siblings, a brother, Pedro Ramis and a sister, Emérida “Nery” Núñez. She emigrated from Cuba to Miami with her family on July 20, 1966. While working at the historic Hialeah Park Race Track, she met the love of her life, Armando Fonticoba, and on March 24, 1976, she married him. She lived a comfortable life and always stayed close to her family. She enjoyed socializing as well as being by herself, having close friends and playing with her great-nieces. She loved to dance and maintained an active and social life even after the passing of her beloved “Gordi” (Armando) in 1989. She adored her pets; her small dogs, cat, and birds, were amongst some of her most faithful companions throughout her life. Arecia’s family will always remember her lovingly as an independent and special woman with a sharp mind, keen sense of humor, positive outlook, and with much love for those around her. She was blessed with many healthy years and a peaceful life.
Arecia’s memory will be honored at a public memorial at San Jose Palm Funeral Home, 4850 Palm Avenue, Hialeah on Thursday April 14, 2022 from 5-10 pm. She will be laid to rest at Caballero Rivero Dade South Memorial Park, 14200 SW 117th Avenue, Miami at 11:30am the following day.
