William Hubbell
January 26, 1964 - February 26, 2022
William Hale Hubbell, beloved father, friend, and champion racer, died on Saturday, February 26th. Born January 26th, 1964 in Puerto Rico, William Hubbell was the son of William and Blanca Hubbell, and was raised in Connecticut and Germany as a child. After returning to the United States, he attended Canterbury preparatory school and Boston University, from which he graduated in 1986. William completed AOCS preparatory training and graduated from the elite Aviation Officer Candidate School in class 33-87, commissioning as an Ensign in the US Navy, where he served briefly before resigning his commission and returning to civilian life. Restlessly curious, William earned a Master’s Degree in comparative religion, an MBA, and a J.D. from Saint Thomas Law School in Miami, Florida. William felt these studies prepared him well to understand the world around him. Surely though, William’s greatest passion was his young son, of whom he was immensely proud and deeply committed. William enjoyed nothing more than racing weekends with his son, and taking him to Jiu Jitsu. William was dedicated to passing his passion for life onto his son and giving him tools to succeed. William was also an avid auto racer and a lifelong enthusiast, just like his father from whom he caught the bug. William began racing in Formula Ford before transitioning to GT, and eventually Prototype class, winning numerous honors and accolades. He was the three-time reigning FARA champion in his Corvette DP Prototype. Always an ardent supporter of causes he believed in, William was very active in politics, at the national, state and local levels, providing substantial backing to candidates he thought could bring about meaningful change. William also loved all animals and financially supported no-kill shelters and animal rescue leagues wherever he lived. William Hubbell, his kindness, generosity, and immeasurable spirit will be sorely missed by the son he adores, his friends, racing family, and all those who loved him. He was only 58; may his life and memory be a reminder to all who loved him to live their lives to the fullest.
