Officer Andrew Gomez, age 35, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. Officer Gomez started his career in Opa-locka as a police officer from 2016-2018. Interim Chief Michael Steel stated that Andrew was well-liked and kept in touch with his fellow Opa-locka officers. He went on to describe Andrew as a fantastic person, and father. Andrew lateraled over to the MDPD on July 2, 2018, and upon graduation was assigned to Kendall District where he served with dedication and professionalism, up until his demise. Andrew was born in Miami, Florida, to Angelica and Jose Gomez. For anyone who knew Andrew, they knew of his love for cars, especially his silver Corvette. However, there was not greater love than for his beautiful children. His greatest joy was coming home from work and his kids running up to greet him. Everything Andrew ever wanted to do, he accomplished during his short life. Those who were privileged to know Andrew will cherish his gentle smile, his zest for life, and his love of family.Andrew is survived by his loving parents Angelica and Jose; his sister Hany Castano (Mauricio); his brother Alain (Carolina); his fiancé Monet Gigi, his son Ashton; his daughter Ayla, and his stepson Michael Rojas; other loving relatives; friends; and his extended Miami-Dade County family.
